Each SC847J E16 series SAS2 JBOD chassis contains two SAS2 expander back-

drives the chassis LEDs and fans. See the CSE-PTJBOD-CB2 section below for
details. The content of this appendix will focus on how this chassis can be congured
both internally and externally.
There are two SAS-2 expander backplanes that are used in SC847J E16 series.
SAS2-846EL1/EL2 and SAS2-826EL1/EL2. More detail on these two backplanes
and how you can internally connect them will be discussed in section A-4 and in
the backplane appendices of this manual. For external connectivity please see
section A-5.
It’s also very important to follow Supermicro’s Expander/HDD Compatibility list which
is published on Supermicro's Web site. All the components in the compatibility list

outside of the compatibility list might work, they will not be supported by Supermicro.
See http://www.supermicro.com/products/nfo/les/storage/SAS-1-CompList.pdf for
the latest list. This document will focus on the single expander version.
