SUPERWORKSTATION 7036A-T Manual
Important! Use extreme caution when working around the SATA back-
plane. Do not touch the backplane with any metal objects and make sure
no ribbon cables touch the backplane or obstruct the air ow holes in the
SATA backplane. Regardless of how many SATA hard drives are installed,
all four SATA drive carriers must remain in the drive bays to promote
proper air ow.
!
6-4 Drive Bay Installation
A bezel covers the front of the chassis but does not need to be removed to access
the drives. If you wish to remove the bezel piece, push on the three tabs on the
inside left side lip of the front chassis cover. Then slightly swing out the same (left)
side of the cover - about ½ inch only. Remove by pushing on the open side of the
cover to remove it from the chassis (do not try to swing or pull it straight out after
opening the left side.
Serial ATA Drives
The hot-swappable SATA drives are mounted in drive carriers to simplify their instal-
lation and removal from the chassis. These carriers also work to promote proper
air ow for the system. For this reason, even carriers without SATA drives must
remain in the workstation.
After unlocking the Serial ATA (SATA) drive bay door, swing it open to access the
SATA drive. The drive IDs are precon gured as 0 through 3 in order from bottom
to top. These SATA drives are hot-pluggable, meaning they can be removed and
installed without powering down the system.
Removing SATA drives
To remove a carrier, rst open the front bezel then push the release button 1.
located beside the drive LEDs.
Swing the colored handle fully out and use it to pull the unit straight out (see 2.
Figure 6-4). Note: Your operating system must have RAID support to enable
the hot-plug capability of the SATA drives.
Mounting a SATA drive in a drive carrier
Insert the drive into the carrier with the printed circuit board side facing down 1.
so that the mounting holes align with those in the carrier.
Secure the drive to the carrier with four screws.2.
