5-5 Installing the Processor and Heatsink

Avoid placing direct pressure to the top of the processor package. Always

remove the power cord ﬁ rst before adding, removing or changing any

hardware components.

Always connect the power cord last and always remove it before adding, re-

moving or changing any hardware components. Make sure that you install the

processor into the CPU socket before you install the CPU heatsink.

If you buy a CPU separately, make sure that you use an Intel-certiﬁ ed multi-

directional heatsink only.

Make sure to install the serverboard into the chassis before you install the CPU

•

heatsinks.

When receiving a serverboard without a processor pre-installed, make sure that

•

the plastic CPU socket cap is in place and none of the socket pins are bent;

otherwise, contact your retailer immediately.

Installation Procedure

Press the socket clip to release the load plate, which covers the CPU socket, 1.

Gently lift the socket clip to open the load plate.2.

Hold the plastic cap at its north and south center edges to remove it from the 3.
